WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE 34% - CENTRAL AND WEST

Prices for whey protein concentrate 34% moved lower across both the range and
mostly price series. A few buyers bought several blocks of WPC34%, taking
advantage of some manufacturers' desires to clear inventories. While stocks are
not as overloaded as some other whey protein products, buyers suggest WPC34% is
generally readily available. Suppliers are getting pushed into making lower
value whey commodities in order to keep whey proteins moving. Demand and price
pressures abound from discounted nonfat dry milk and higher whey protein
concentrates. Manufacturers who make WPC34% meeting infant formula
specifications, however, say their stocks are quite tight. They also suggest
demand may surge if economies across Asia, especially China, improve. The
October 2017 Dairy Market News average of the mostly price series for Central and
West whey protein concentrate 34% was $0.8063, compared to $0.8231 one month ago
and $0.7706 one year ago. According to the NASS Dairy Products report U.S.
production of WPC (25.0-49.9% protein) during September 2017 totaled 14.3 million
pounds, 7.3 percent higher than one year ago, and 5.9 percent higher than August.
Year to date total WPC (25.0-49.9% protein) production through September is 134.0
million pounds, up 1.1 from January through September one year ago. Manufacturers'
end-of-month stocks for WPC (25.0-49.9% protein) totaled 23.1 million pounds, 11.9
percent higher than one year ago, and 1.0 percent more than August 2017.
