DRY WHEY - CENTRAL

Central whey spot prices slipped on both the range and mostly price series.
As producers try to clear available year-end inventories, offered price
points of dry whey continue to decline. Spot activity was lively. Contacts
continue to point out that overall contracting has diminished for 2018.
Additionally, producers looking to set up 2018 contractual agreements are
unquestionably more willing to compromise on updating/adapting their
contractual indexes. Production of dry whey is steady, as discounted milk
continues to flow into cheese vats and is not expected to slow down in
December. Inventories of dry whey are available. The dry whey market tone is
weak. Feed whey spot market prices declined on the bottom of the range. Feed
whey inventories are available. The DMN monthly average of the mostly price
series for Central dry whey during November was $0.3067, compared to $0.3499
a year ago. The monthly average of the range price series for Central animal
feed whey during November was $0.2305, compared to $0.2820 a year ago. The
NASS Dairy Products report noted U.S. total dry whey (Human) production for
October 2017 was 79.1 million pounds, down 3.1 percent from a year ago.
January-October 2017 U.S. total dry whey production totaled 869.3 million
pounds, 8.2 percent above the same time span in 2016. The Central region
produced 38.4 million pounds of U.S. human dry whey production in October,
4.9 percent higher than a year ago.
