FOREIGN TYPE CHEESE

In November, the European Union (EU) cheese market undertone was solid.
Sales into the retail sector as well as the food and beverage sector picked
up. Exports among the EU member states were steady. However, due to a weaker
value of the euro compared to the US dollar and lower cheese prices in some
of the EU member states, export opportunities raised up. On the other hand,
the EU cheese production was active in November and expanded more since the
beginning of Q3 2017. November cheese supplies were more than sufficient to
meet buyers' needs. As so, the pressure on prices amplified and semi-hard
cheese prices fell. In Germany, price negotiations of the past weeks have
recently quieted down. In the U.S., the prices for wholesale blue,
gorgonzola, parmesan Italy, and Romano are down $0.0200 while prices for
Swiss cuts Switzerland decreased $0.0225. All other prices are steady.
